Valid Deutsche Post Leitcode input
A Leitcode is digits from start to finish, entered as either 13 or 14 characters. The 14 positions map to real address data: five for the destination postal code, three for the street code, three for the house number, two for the product code, and a trailing check digit. Give Plume the 13 data digits and it appends the checksum on its own, or give it all 14 and it confirms the final digit before rendering anything.
The checksum walks the 13 data digits with alternating multipliers of 4 and 9, sums the results, and rounds up to a multiple of 10; the difference is the 14th digit. The carrier symbology is Interleaved 2 of 5, which encodes digits in interleaved pairs, so the total must stay even, and the fixed 14-digit format guarantees that.

Common errors and how to fix them
- Deutsche Post Leitcode must be 13 or 14 digits
- Check the length. A common cause is pasting only part of the code, such as the postal code alone. Plume removes pasted spaces and hyphens, but dots from a printed label count against the length, so paste plain digits. Supply 13 digits to have the checksum appended, or the complete 14.

- Strip out any letters, periods, or spaces before encoding. Printed Leitcode labels group the number for the eye, in the form 21348.075.016.40 1, but the barcode data itself is an unbroken digit string.

- The 14th digit failed validation against the first 13. Recheck the source number for a transposed pair, or enter just the 13 data digits so the correct checksum is generated for you.
Size and printing
Because a Leitcode always holds 14 digits, it comes out one digit pair wider than an Identcode at the same module width, so budget slightly more horizontal room on the label. Width grows in direct proportion to the module width setting, which Plume takes in millimeters, and nothing else changes the bar count. Print at 300 DPI or more for laser and thermal labels, go up to 600 DPI for small modules, and prefer the vector SVG whenever the label template will be scaled later in design software.
