Type the 8 data digits of the AIC number and the check digit is computed for you, or paste all 9 digits and it is verified instead: 123456789 is refused because the correct final digit for 12345678 is 8. Digits only, with no spaces and no leading A, and leading zeros are significant because AIC codes are fixed length.
Internally the nine digit result is converted to base 32 and written as six Code 39 characters, while the text line under the bars shows the letter A followed by all nine digits.

Common errors and how to fix them
- Italian Pharmacode must be 8 or 9 digits
- AIC data is 8 digits. Enter those 8 and let the tool append the check digit, or all 9 including the check; any other length is refused.
- Incorrect Italian Pharmacode check digit provided
- Your ninth digit does not match the computed check. For example 123456789 fails because the correct check digit for 12345678 is 8; when unsure, enter just the 8 data digits.
- Italian Pharmacode must contain only digits
- Drop the leading A along with any spaces or punctuation. The A belongs to the printed text line and is never typed or encoded.
Size and printing
Every Code 32 symbol has the same printed length at a given module width, because any AIC value compresses to exactly six base 32 characters between the start and stop patterns; this generator renders different values at identical widths, which makes carton layout predictable. The bars follow Code 39 geometry, so leave a quiet zone of at least ten module widths of clear space on each side. For packaging artwork download the vector SVG, or raster PNG at up to 600 DPI.

What is Code 32 on Italian medicine packaging?
It is the machine readable form of the AIC authorization number assigned to medicines approved for sale in Italy. Pharmacies scan it at the counter and in stock systems.
How is the Code 32 check digit calculated?
Counting from the left, double the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th digits, subtracting 9 from any product above 9, then add the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th digits and take the last digit of the total. For 12345678 that gives 8; this generator does the math for you when you enter 8 digits.
Do I type the A at the start of the Italian pharmacode?
No. Enter digits only; the input rejects letters. The A appears automatically in the human readable line and is never encoded in the bars.
Is Code 32 the same as Code 39?
It borrows Code 39 bar patterns, but the content is the AIC number recoded in base 32. A scanner in plain Code 39 mode returns six odd looking characters; enable its Code 32 conversion setting to get the digits back.
