Plain text out

Convert a PDF to text.

plume · local · convert/pdf-to-text · works offline

Your PDF becomes clean plain text you can copy or save, in the same order you read it. The text streams into a live preview as it comes out, so you can grab it all in one tap or download a UTF-8 .txt. Got a scan or a photo of a page? Read it right here with on-device OCR.

What you get

  • Extracts the raw, selectable text from a PDF into a clean .txt file: no layout, no images, just the words in reading order.
  • Ideal for copying content into another app, feeding text to a script, or quickly searching what a document actually says.
  • If the PDF is a scan (image-only), the tool runs OCR to read the text off the page rather than returning nothing.
  • Everything runs in your browser; your document is never uploaded.

Questions people ask

What’s the difference from PDF to Word?

PDF to Text gives the plain words with no formatting, perfect for search, scripts or pasting elsewhere. PDF to Word rebuilds an editable document with headings, tables and images. Choose by whether you want the content or the layout.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Yes. If the page is an image with no embedded text, OCR recognizes the words so you still get usable text instead of an empty file.

Is the reading order preserved?

The words are regrouped by their position on the page and read left to right, top to bottom, so an ordinary single-column document comes out in real reading order instead of the jumbled order the PDF stores internally. Pages laid out in several columns that share the same lines, such as a newspaper or journal page, can still interleave, so give those a quick check.
